How to play Steppy Fox
Steppy Fox is a free one-tap browser game. A fox crosses an endless frozen lake, one ice floe at a time, and every step is a test of timing. It runs on any phone or computer, with no download, no account and no ads.
The rules in 30 seconds
- Watch the marker. A white marker sweeps left and right across the bar at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap when it is in the green. Tap anywhere, or press space. Green is a clean landing. It builds your perfect streak and resets the ice.
- Yellow is a heavy landing. You survive, but your streak resets and the ice is already more than half cracked.
- Outside both, you fall in. One mistimed step ends the run.
- Do not stand still. The ice stress meter fills the whole time the fox stands on a floe. When it is full, the ice gives way.
Your score is the number of tiles you cross. That is the whole game: one button, and it is much harder than it looks.
What changes as you go further
The first few tiles are generous on purpose. Then three things tighten:
- The marker speeds up quickly over the first ten tiles, then keeps creeping faster for as long as you survive.
- The green and yellow zones shrink, so the timing window gets shorter.
- From tile 10 the zone starts moving. It drifts left and right, at a different pace on every tile, and sometimes reverses when you land. You can no longer tap to a rhythm. You have to watch.
Is Steppy Fox fair?
Yes, and that is a rule inside the game, not a promise. The ice can never give way before the marker has passed through the middle of the zone at least once since you landed, and you always get a moment after that pass. Every death is a mistake you could have avoided. This is checked automatically for every tile and every possible position before each update goes live.
Tips to pass 50
- Aim for the middle of the green, not its edge. The small notches on the bar mark dead centre.
- After a heavy landing, take the very next pass. Waiting for a second one usually costs you the run.
- Turn the sound on. Every perfect landing raises the pitch. Your ears learn the timing faster than your eyes.
- From tile 10, look at the zone first, then the marker. Track where the green is heading, then time the marker into it.
- Tap early rather than late. On a touch screen there is a small delay between your thumb and the game.

The leaderboard and cheating
There is a daily and an all-time leaderboard. You only need a nickname. When you submit a score, the game sends the exact moment of every tap, and the server replays your whole run with the real game rules. A score that does not reproduce is rejected, so edited scores never reach the table.

Yes, in Safari, Chrome and any modern browser. You can add it to your home screen, and it keeps working offline after the first visit.
Does it track me?
No cookies and no personal data. The game only counts anonymous events, such as which tile runs end on, to tune the difficulty.
Why did the leaderboard reset?
Whenever the difficulty is retuned, scores from the old rules are kept apart so every score on the table was earned under the same rules.
